Transformer Fire is a nightmare for substation engineers.
Transformers Fires are extremely dangerous, cause severe damage to the substation and can render a transformer unusable.
Transformers are particularly vulnerable given the hundreds of litres of oil which they contain.
Common reasons for Tranformer Fires are
Breakdown of insulation
Lightning Strikes
Failure of Protection systems to operate during faults.
Faulty Assembly or errors during Maintenance.
Physical damage
Sabotage
Hence, it necessary that a reliable fire suppression system is in place to generate an alarm quickly and to extinguish the fire.
