Why is Transformer oil filtration carried out ?

Transformer oil gets deteriorated over a period of time. This is due to a number of reasons such as the formation of sediments, oxidation and contamination. Hence, the Transformer oil should be periodically filtered to improve the characteristics of the transformer oil to its original value or as close to the initial values.
The Filtration Process removes water from the oil. The sediments are also filtered. Modern Filtration techniques also remove air bubbles and other gases from the oil. The acid which has formed in the oil is neutralized by passing them through an alkaline medium.
