A capacitive Voltage Transformer or a CVT is a special type of Potential transformer with a capacitor connected in series between the voltage transformer and the high voltage equipment whose potential is to be measured. The voltage is reduced by the capacitor and is measured by the voltage transformer. The capacitive voltage transformer is used to measure very high voltages.
