Ferranti effect is a phenomenon in which the receiving end voltage is higher than the sending end voltage. This is caused when the line is lightly loaded. The capacitive charging current generates a voltage which is in phase with the sending end voltage. This causes the receiving end voltage to rise. The ferranti effect can be reduced by adding reactances in the line. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferranti_effect
